Thousands turn out in Sydney for King Charles’ proclamation | Rabe9

Thousands of Sydneysiders have gathered at Australia’s oldest parliament to witness the NSW proclamation of King Charles III, before a 21-gun salute echoed through the city.

“She is incredibly well-loved, we all owe her a great debt, but today we pause this period of mourning as we celebrate the accession of King Charles III.” “We grew up with Queen Elizabeth, we’ve grown up singing ‘God Save the Queen’ every morning, we had to raise the flag at school.” Perrottet said the Sydney Opera House would remain illuminated with a portrait of the Queen for the remainder of the mourning period being observed across the Commonwealth.Public transport was made free across Sydney on Sunday to mark the historic occasion, with extra staff distributed through the city and Circular Quay in anticipation of heavy crowds.
