Thousands of heartbroken Kiwis ‘in limbo’ as they remain locked out of New Zealand | Nigelgladstone

, with 787 of those found at the border and 710 in the community. Those cases represent almost 10 per cent of the country’s total caseload since the start of the pandemic. On Sunday, NZ Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern stayed in self-isolation as the country recorded 103 new COVID-19 cases.

“There is little real understanding in Australia of the impact the MIQ system has had,” Ms Kitchen said. “At the moment there is no real clarity as to when border policies might shift and untold thousands are simply in limbo.” “I moved here with the understanding that we would always be able to get home and we went home twice a year at least to see my family, so it’s scary being cut off like this,” Ms Stanley, 30, said. “If something happened, how would we get home?“I was struggling postpartum and having a baby without your family here, and the support network they provide was hard.”

Niki, her husband Lewis and their two and a half year-old son Roman began planning to move back to NZ from Sydney last year to be with family after Lewis was unable to return to be with his mother before she died. Niki applied for an emergency exemption more than two weeks ago and found out on Saturday that she was successful. The family has been given 14 days to arrive, or they will lose their spot.

Nigelgladstone I could be wrong, but wasn’t this Australia until recently? Both countries pursued a similar strategy, but NZ is not as far down the road. They haven’t had their first wave yet.

Nigelgladstone Im sure they'll be fine.

Nigelgladstone With Jacinta calling the shots that might be the way to be. Kruschev said he was safer in Stalingrad during the war than in Moscow with Stalin.

Nigelgladstone They not Locked out as the headline suggests..but there is process that they need to go through to get into MIQ... The process is designed to minimise the risk of Covid entering through the border.. Around 200,000 returnees have come through the system over the last 6 months

Nigelgladstone The kid looks pissed 😤

Nigelgladstone If they are so heartbroken they never would have left the place
