Thousands rally in Melbourne CBD, closing roads, blocking trams. changetherules

Thousands of people have flooded into the Melbourne CBD as the city prepares for significant disruption ahead of a massive union rally.

Premier Daniel Andrews leads a march in October with union leaders Lisa Fitzpatrick, Luke Hilakari and the ACTU's Sally McManus. The rally is starting at Trades Hall on Lygon Street, with those gathered set to head down Russell, La Trobe, Swanston and Bourke streets. It will end at State Parliament. Victorian Trades Hall secretary Luke Hilakari said that, depending on the weather, he was expecting a crowd similar to the roughly 170,000 his office recorded for the

“We’re happy with the turnout. We are expecting another 200 people to turn up during the march but there’s definitely more than the last rally.”"I’ve worked with the company for 30 years. The price of living is going up and I’m fighting for a decent wage," he said.“I’m happy that there’s lots of different smaller unions fighting for one cause. I’m from Bendigo so I’m glad that people made the trip to Melbourne to fight for the cause.

This is will be the future of Australia if Labour wins! Union strikes and wages blow out! We can kiss the rest of our Manufacturing goodbye! Well they destroyed the Industry, they might as well finish the job!

Melbourne. The place where special interest groups block main roads and the economy on Tuesdays, Wednesday's and Fridays. Great society you there guys.

This was different to the Vegan protest..how?

So tradesman are asking for $55 an hour and keep wanting more yet they cry poor?

Union membership down 70% over the last 20 years even though Australia’s workforce has doubled. Rapidly becoming irrelevant in a modern economy that is all about innovation, entrepreneurialism and supporting SMEs.

How is our elected premier at our protest about unfair wages!? Get back to work and do something productive about it, like improving productivity, not pandering to your union mates and supporting the private sector who are the driving force behind the economy.

Another excuse for th unions to take another day off work. 36hr working weeks, 25+ RDOs a year plus public holidays and annual leave. Unskilled labourers getting paid $100k a year. What a tough life.

4.5 million in Melbourne. 100k maybe at this union rally. Hmmm

Its not good for students and city workers though so spare a thought for them

Expect the same union rallies with our leaders at . the Helm if Labor wins Federal. Rest In Peace Victoria.Stop complaining. He doesn’t care He has 4 years to go. Careful what we pray for. We gave him the Landslide.

Leftards helping the country once again. Welcome to Labor pains.

Peaceful, respectful march from what I saw, & no doubt a large cash injection into the CBD afterwards.

Omg! Not blocking traffic were they? How inconvenient for the commuting public.

Carried on about the vegan protest ,but front and centre with this one with his union mates

'Closing roads & blocking trams' an eye witness account from their ivory tower

I support the vegans and the unions. I must be a terrible person ✌

news_australian But that’s ok. Are any Vegans? 😛

Why would the Premier to be involved in this type of rally?

wouldnt work on a iron lung

John the chippie wants a big pay rise due to living costs. Cost of building construction goes up. Cost for lease goes up. Cost of business goes up due to lease increase. Products sold to consumers goes up to cover lease. Cost of living goes up. John demands another pay rise...yep

'closing roads, blocking trams' that what you headline. You are losing the plot.

What a joke. This will be australia when that other stooge BS becomes prime minister.

Yes! thepeopleunitedwillneverbedivided

WegenerDamian

Rather than join the protest, shouldn't Dan Andrews do his job as premier and take action? He has a workplace relations minister in his government does he not?

The rally/march is about what?

Surprised they’re marching. Little bit of drizzle flags down!

Bill Shorten should be at the Melbourne protest march and support his employer the unions lets make the People's republic of China I mean Australia great again

Standing up and fighting back against unfair work laws Union POWER auspol changetherules

Lunacy.... Will the unions be charged for the police presence like was done to Milo Yiannanopolous and Lauren Southern!

Union rally to shut down Melbourne CBDMelbourne’s city streets will again be shut down by protesters as 100,000 workers march in “peaceful assembly” for better wages and increased job security. Thugs Might as well be shouting : 'increase inflation!' Unions represent ~13% of the workforce, and even that pitiful number is falling year by year. Thugs, parasites and bludgers. It's no wonder no-one wants a bar of them. Especially if the likes of Bill Shorten is the best they can produce.
