This was Boris Johnson's worst day as PM - and he's not out of the woods | nickdmiller

Rees-Mogg said the rebel plan was "constitutionally irregular" and designed to "confound the [Brexit] referendum result", and tried to back this up with some Latin.

The rebels won – though as the "indicative votes" farce earlier this year proved, just because the Parliament can agree to have a debate doesn't mean it will achieve anything with it. This is a questionable tactic by Number 10. It leaves them far short of commanding a majority in Parliament – extraordinarily weak. One theory is that they are deliberately tempting Opposition Leader Jeremy Corbyn to push for an election, so they don't get the blame. Another is, simply, if you threaten to do something you have to follow through. So what now? If the rebels' no-no-deal law passes on Wednesday, then Johnson will try for an election.

There are various other Machiavellian options and theories, which Westminster fanatics are busy sketching into complex graphs on the back of beer coasters.

NickdMiller Boris Johnson may have lost his parliamentary majority but hey he'd win the Trump lookalike competition hands-down

NickdMiller Johnson may emerge from this the Mad Max of British conservative politics as an indefatigable, ultimately victorious warrior in a Brexit wasteland. Really?

NickdMiller It’s all political theatre at the end Boris will prevail and be hailed as strong PM

NickdMiller Or best day, depending on your political viewpoint.

UK PM Boris Johnson loses parliamentary majority ahead of Brexit showdownPhillip Lee has left the Conservative Party to join the Liberal Democrats, which opposes Brexit and wants to remain in the European Union, robbing Boris Johnson of his majority in parliament. Look how the media is treating a person working AGAINST THE RESULT OF A REFERENDUM as a hero. The leftists only care about their sick rise to power not what people vote for. The British people voted to leave the EU three years ago. Since then the UK Parliament has clearly demonstrated that “representative” democracy is neither representative or democratic in the slightest. Brexit The shortening of a career I suspect.
