There may have been lots of swirling currents but the results of the federal election were overwhelmingly that 2022 was, finally, the climate election.
Even in the so-called "coal" seats like Hunter and Flynn, there was not a huge swing, as had been predicted, towards the Coalition because of fear of loss of coal jobs but in fact towards Labor. It is the end of the Morrison Government in an election which — while it might not have resulted in a landslide for the Opposition — has seen the conservative party decimated and shattered.
There was a swing of more than 6 per cent against Scott Morrison in his own seat and seats that the Coalition targeted — like Blair in Queensland and Lingiari — also stubbornly resisted the PM's visits and overtures and swung further to Labor. The downfall of the government — and the destruction of so much of what has been the old Liberal Party — and the story of the independents also makes the story of the night — that we have a new Labor government seem almost a postscript when of course it is the most important story for the future.
He is a superb negotiator and coalition builder: Skills that will be crucial whatever the final numbers. And that sets the culture for his government. His Leader of the House, Tony Burke, is an equally wily negotiator.
Oh please! ABC are just happy the pressure will come off their biased editorial issues now the ALP is in government. Half the eastern states journalists are always barracking for the left rather than reporting the news.
Yes, transformative due to the fact that Australia will be handed over to the likes of the WHO, WEF and the fuhrer himself, Billy goat Gates.
That's ok. Give Labor another go. Remember..NO backstabbing. NO change of leader midterm. NO flittering away a Liberals' surplus just because you can (well you can't because there ain't any this time). DO what your policies state (all been noted). $1trillion deficit? Good luck
It’ll may also be difficult for LNP to select a stable leader as their most likely candidates may be spending a fair amount of time explaining themselves at a federal ICAC. 🤔
Your coverage was frankly embarrassing.
ABC did not cover the election well last night. It was solemn funeral bizzare slow to call win for Albo Ch7 was professional, impartial cheerful and pretty enjoyed the show. Glad to call ALP winner seconds after Ch9. Something is wrong with Leigh Sales ,not good
This election is in favour of China..Emperor Aldo will make sure of that.
latingle One of the problems AlboMP will face is the 2nd Sydney airport. It is not compatible with netzero objectives. Nor will it survive the evolving oil crises, future pandemics and high temperatures in summer months when planes can't take off
latingle The election platform of AlboMP is not good enough to respond to peakoil which is happening now. The time to prepare was under Howard. The Rudd-Gillard government did a peak oil report but Kim Carr refused to publish it in the Senate. Then 9 years wasted by the Libs
Traded in Yogi bear for a garden gnome.
Yes… anyone with half a brain is going to flee Australia. I’ve got my British passport. Australia and Australians are about to get what they deserve…
How important to Labor is governing with a majority of 76 seats or more?
