An 85-year-old man dies from COVID-19 in Toowoomba, west of Brisbane, the third person to die from the virus in the state.

The man died in the Toowoomba hospital on the Darling Downs, west of Brisbane.

Another 57 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Queensland, bringing the state's tally to 835 in total. Health Minister Steven Miles said there were nine people being treated in intensive care, with the majority on ventilators. "The longer we can slow it, the better our hospitals will be able to cope with demand, the more lives our doctors and nurses and health staff will be able to save," he said."When we ask you to do things which are often inconvenient, sometimes are very inconvenient, sometimes very impactful on your work or your business, please know that we are taking this seriously because it is serious.Last month a woman from Queensland died in Sydney after leaving her home on the Sunshine Coast.
