The so-called median line has no legal standing, but has been a buffer between Taiwan and China since a US general devised it in 1954.

abc.net.au/news/china-pressuring-taiwan-to-give-up-median-line/101378060For nearly 70 years, an imagined line down the water between Taiwan and China has helped keep the peace.China has never officially recognised the line, but has recently hardened its position that it does "not exist"But the Taiwan Strait's so-called median line is increasingly meaningless as China's modernised navy asserts its strength.

"They want to increase pressure on us with the end goal of us giving up the median line," one Taiwanese official familiar with security planning in the region said. "We need to join our hands with like-minded partners to make sure that the median line is still there, to safeguard peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait," Dr Wu said.

An established Chinese naval presence close to Taiwan's territorial waters would stretch Taiwan's military and make any Chinese blockade or invasion much easier, Taiwanese officials have warned. Within weeks, US warships are expected to sail through the Taiwan Strait, underscoring what they see as its status as an international waterway, to the inevitable annoyance of China, which claims sovereignty and other rights over the strait.Three US officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said that Chinese crossings of the median line had little tactical importance.

'Humiliation': Footage of Taiwanese soldiers throwing rocks at drone posted on Chinese social mediaTaiwan will begin deploying drone defence systems on its offshore islands after footage emerged of Taiwanese soldiers throwing stones at a Chinese drone that buzzed a guard post. Erm. They're in Taiwan airspace. I am quite disappointed that they didn't shoot them down. 🤣🤣🤣🤣Are you sure they are not North Korean soldiers? Why didn't they ask their superiors for permission to shoot or something?

Why another Morrison inquiry? If it’s to humiliate Labor’s enemies, it would be political brutalismIt’s up to the prime minister to convince us that his inquiry into Scott Morrison’s secret ministries is more than a free kick at his enemies. Labor is not interested in governing, just power. Deserved and just. Political brutalism, seriously! There are many administrative and constitutional issues associated with the secret appointments which the solicitor generals advice doesn’t cover. It needs an enquiry.

Albanese is still under the impression he is in opposition, more interested in mud slinging and dragging up the past than leading this country forward. Disappointing. Here we go again, calling for a political sacking, wasting tax payers $ on another navel gassing review, by some past it judge. The money will be spent, a bound document will be handed over to a smiling politician, who is just as bad. Like a merry go round that never stops.
