The owners corporation would now pay for the cost of repairs to the building by raising strata levies, he said.
"Anybody looking to purchase in a building less than 10 years of age is foolish because the defects will not have yet surfaced," he said. Mr Goddard, who is also a strata lawyer, said the High Court had recently confirmed that developers and builders do not owe owners corporations any duty of care because the owners corporation doesn't exist at the time of registration of the plan.
"Most of our parliaments are on a sort of junkie hit when it comes to the building industry,"he said.
Currently sitting in a Mascot Cafe hearing tradies shoot the shit, all three theorising that the apartment shifted due to the sand underneath the foundations - the former swamplands that Mascot is built upon. 🤔
this is the second incident. If nothing is out in place to protect residents and owners of apartments in high rise buildings it could seriously affect the future market. I mean right now who would want to live in one?.
builders' warranty should be extended for 10yrs on structural defects 80% of unit towers have got defects The certification process has been corrupted by developers' own certifiers approving lemons
Anyone who buys one of these fire traps is a fool anyway
How much more of this crap is out there. if you build or engineer something. For x amount of time one has to be fully liable
Corrupt governments help corrupt businesses 🤷♂️
Stephen Goddard must be ensared by a computer screen full of quixotic garbage to conjure such bullshit. Seriously! “Don’t buy anything less than 10 years old... 80 per cent of all new apartment buildings were constructed with structural defects”. You fool!
These concrete creations are always built by the cheapest tenderer, who screws the subbies at every turn and then walks off with massive profits hoping that the building makes it out of the warranty period. Would not trust any apartment developer as far as I could throw them.
Sue the state government for failing to have safeguards/Regs in place to prevent this from happening
Sue the government! Widespread poor building quality is either a neoliberal failure of regulation or a failure of government ensuring compliance!
Ouch....
BKontominas antonette_news Problem not yet discovered is looming electricity shortage to hit high rises, decrease their values. Back-up generators? When owner corporations lack funds, it's a downward spiral. Good luck GladysB to fill immigration metros with apartment dwellers
The government
Dodgy builders are protected in this country. It’s enough to put “DBDRV reviews” keywords and read what ppl say about this authority
Surely there must be someone who is liable.
The builders should have had builders insurance. Surely they can be forced to pay or why is it a requirement
And there we have Gladys’ promise of “making sure someone pays”. Not the dodgy builders, the unsuspecting buyers. BerejikliansSydney
