In the midst of a housing affordability crisis, the debate over plans to sell and redevelop the Rosehill Racecourse should be based on fact, not scaremongering rhetoric.

I’ve covered politics for most of my career in journalism and have largely lost the ability to be shocked by the cut and thrust of daily mud slinging. But every now and then a political figure says something so ugly that it shakes me out of my desensitised state.on Monday night.

The Oxford Dictionary says the word “ghetto” denotes “a part of a city, especially a slum area, occupied by a minority group or groups”. As the “When you talk about putting that many people in such a small location it does over time become a ghetto. It’ll be a closed community that mostly only people that reside there will go,” she said.

You need only look at Google Earth to question whether the racetrack and surrounding precinct is the best use of Sydney’s scarce land., we all care about our neighbourhoods. Many of us also care deeply about the welfare and functionality of the city as a whole. And significant policy changes that warrant rigorous debate.
