While the World Health Organization says the end of the COVID-19 pandemic is nearing, some Australian experts aren't quite as optimistic.

World Health Organization director-general Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus says global COVID-19 case numbers are trending downwards. The organisation that declared the COVID-19 pandemic a public health emergency on 30 January 2020 is now sayingIn his most optimistic assessment yet of the state of play with COVID-19 globally, World Health Organization director-general Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said global case numbers are trending downwards.

"These policy briefs are an urgent call for governments to take a hard look at their policies, and strengthen them for COVID-19 and future pathogens with pandemic potential." "While the virus isn't gone, it's still there. And that's why we call it endemic, the virus doesn't spread around as quickly as it did before."Professor McMillan said he shared Dr Tedros' optimism about the potential to see the end of the pandemic.A new study commissioned by the World Health Organization estimates 17 million people in Europe are living with symptoms of long COVID.

"From an Australian perspective, it's easily the worst year we've had. 12,000 people died of COVID this year," he said. "In places like Papa New Guinea, 10 million people - the closest country to Australia has north - only about 5 per cent of the population is doubly vaccinated. Pretty much the whole of the African continent is severely under-vaccinated and many are not vaccinated at all. So we're still miles behind equitable access to vaccines," he said.

"But I actually think there's much more to a pandemic than that - it's the way that the disease affects society."

this WHO fellow never got anything quite right so. far,, I would'nt. pay much attention to what he say, honestly think they are . worthless,,

Good glad nearly over

WHO didn't this guy from WHO say back in 2019 there was nothing to worry about COVID 19 is just an epidemic not a pandemic

'I think the pandemic - I use the term as a social phenomenon - is over. COVID is still around, and it will be a disease that we'll need to deal with forever using clinical and public health means.' Having travelled abroad recently, I’d agree with this

bobepidemiology Reasonable and balanced comments on the social end to the pandemic by bobepidemiology to offset those by Brendan Crabb, who came out with disingenuous statements like this, when he knows full well the difference between 2020/21 and 2022.

Endemic doesn't make it safer or less dangerous. It just means persistent and predictable. Malaria - endemic to parts of the world Polio - same Dengue Fever - same

They’ve said the end of the emergency phase is nearing And it’s contingent upon countries reassessing their approach and reimplementing things like public health and social measures

COVID-19 leave payments to be kept as long as mandatory isolation is requiredCOVID-19 pandemic leave payments for people forced to isolate will be continued indefinitely, following a meeting of national cabinet. just stupid waste Stop the payment It is costing us over $2bils this year Which doesn’t really address the underlying issue. It instead institutes an ongoing government cash handouts. Labor has spent the past several months arguing it can’t continue these payments indefinitely and now has done a breathtaking backflip. They’ll never pass on an opportunity to fumble their way out of government.

End of Covid pandemic ‘in sight’, says World Health OrganizationGlobal weekly deaths down to 11,118 on 5 September – the lowest level since March 2020 Nope. Nope, not buying the party line. No trust. Don’t say that. Keep the lies and misinformation going. I invested in vaccine stocks and am making a fortune. Keep telling healthy low risk people they need regular boosters. Force it on them if necessary. Not looking that way in Australia. COVID-19 is being normalised here - live with it. Stats no longer reported. People dying : Normal, move on, nothing to see. Govt/Pollys/Corps/Bus - no longer interested. Politically motivated to Economy (to make Profits) - not saving Lives.

WHO director-general says the end of the COVID pandemic is 'in sight'Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus says the world isn't there yet, 'but the end is in sight' for the coronavirus pandemic. Your headline should include the BUT .... that followed that statement. Wait till China abort zero Covid policy 🤪 So magically there will be a date where ppl can just let their vaccine 'protection' wear off and not get anymore boosters? Yet ppl who got none at all and were penalised for it won't get any compensation or apologies for it?
