The stain #metoo allegations leave on celebrity reputations

On the surface Australian actor John Jarratt and Sir Cliff Richard don't appear to have too much in common.Despite starring in 1975's, Jarratt, 66, is best known for his more recent role as the deranged, psychopathic backpacker killer Mick Taylor hunting down young travellers in the outback inMeanwhile Sir Cliff Richard, 78, has long been portrayed as the squeaky-clean pop star whose religious convictions meant he didn't believe in having sex outside of marriage. He never married.

Police raided Sir Cliff's home in 2014 during an investigation into a sexual assault claim. He was never arrested, charged or convicted and went on to successfully sue the BBC for invasion of privacy after it covered the raid from a news helicopter hovering above his home.Currently, alleged victims of sexual offences receive lifelong anonymity under UK and Australian laws, but only a few Australian states have any law against publicly naming a suspect.

Not helping matters was the image selected to run with the story showing Jarratt in character as the menacing and evil Wolf Creek killer.
