A report due to be released on Wednesday suggests the Socceroos could be the unexpected beneficiaries of the A-League's coronavirus-induced woes.

Add articles to your saved list and come back to them any time.If there is a silver lining to the A-League's bleak financial position, it could be the development of future stars for the Socceroos with players under the age of 21 experiencing a sharp spike in the number of minutes played in the competition.

It is a significant blow to the competition but the Professional Footballers Association report suggests it will create more opportunities for youngsters already in the A-League system who blossomed in the recent two-month hub last winter.According to the report, Brisbane Roar were the only club not to have witnessed a sharp increase in the number of minutes for players under the age of 21, while Perth Glory youngsters experienced a 14-fold spike in July and August.
