Early in his new book about the 2022 federal election he unexpectedly helped to shape, Simon Holmes a Court tells a story about the savage bullying he witnessed and suffered at Geelong Grammar at the hands of the sons of the “Melbourne establishment” during the 1980s.
“In the lead-up to the 2022 election, I’d often be asked how I was handling being ‘attacked’ most nights on Sky After Dark, which refers to the programming on Sky News Australia after the day-shift journalists leave and the reactionary, post-truth opinionistas take over. I’d honestly quip that Sky After Dark was nothing compared with Geelong Grammar After Dark.”Fast-forward 30-odd years.

From left: Paul, Simon, Cathy, Janet and Peter.Because Climate 200 neither selects candidates to run nor sets policy, Holmes a Court rejects the criticism he is controlling a de facto party. Though the federal Labor government is perceived as more progressive on the triumvirate of teal issues than the Coalition, he argues its emissions reduction target of at least 43 per cent by 2030 falls short of the expectations of potential independent voters, and that they may also reject Labor’s refusal to mandate an end to new fossil fuel projects.
Despite the threat, some of the Liberal Party’s most prominent champions continue to hold the door open for the insurgency, says Holmes a Court.
