Climate Change Minister Chris Bowen says the federal government considered bidding for the UN climate summit for 2024, but then ruled it out due to the timing and global tensions.

The bid would involve a co-hosting arrangement with Pacific island nations.

Australia will bid to host an upcoming United Nations conference on climate change, marketing itself as a renewable energy powerhouse. "This is an opportunity - will be an opportunity, if we win the bid - to show Australia's capacity to help the world as a renewable energy powerhouse," he told reporters in Sydney on Saturday.

Mr Bowen said Australia considered bidding for COP29 in 2024 but decided against it, citing the time frame and global tensions.

I'm sure that will help skyrocketing energy prices... The ALP has turned into the anti worker party. On par with the Greens. Wonderful. Determined to enforce blackouts and impossible energy price rises. Well done. It's only taken 3 months / whilst China builds even more. ClimatChangeScam Yes, insects do run the world. We should stop voting for them. Like everything climate change related I suspect you can't generalise. The climate changes, whatever they may eventually be, will be good for some species, neutral for some and bad for others.

Climate change poses challenge for remote fire managers after decade of successIn the 2000s wildfires raged in the Kimberley until a huge increase in planned burning reduced their impact. But climate change means that success is far from guaranteed into the future. BUUUULLLLSHIIITTTTT 💩💩 Doesn't look like good land management.... They should say in the headline 'After a decade of luck'. Ps. Traditional burns are mainly in Autumn ABC. What climate change, it's cooler now and there's less CO2 in the air than a few thousand years ago. So how does that make any sense?
