A Liberian rebel commander is convicted and sentenced to 20 years in jail for crimes committed in Liberia's civil war in one of the first ever convictions over the country's conflict. The crimes include rape, killings and eating slices of a man's heart.

A Liberian rebel commander has been sentenced to 20 years jail in Switzerland for crimes including rape, killings and an act of cannibalism, in one of the first ever convictions over the West African country's civil war.Alieu Kosiah faced charges including one where he was accused of eating slices of a man's heart

A plaintiff in the case who testified that Kosiah ordered his brother's murder urged other Liberians to come forward as witnesses and secure more convictions. He asked not to be named in media reports for fear of reprisals.Liberia has ignored pressure to prosecute crimes from its back-to-back wars between 1989-2003, in which thousands of child soldiers became bound up in power tussles exacerbated by ethnic rivalry.

His lawyer Dmitri Gianoli said in an email to Reuters that Kosiah was "very disappointed" by the court's decision, saying it had succumbed to media and political pressure."Mr Alieu Kosiah will pursue his fight for justice to be served."

Commentary here shows an absolute disregard for human life like the recent story of a soldier skinning children alive, these barbaric acts should get the world to wipe out completely the people that do them

Whatever! The reporting cannot be trusted. Libyan war was USA & allies destabilising the country by arming terrorists & bombing the government. Now we have a big cannibal headline for the Lybian side. I know its a fact USA was behind the war but not reported as such. Propaganda!

Eat that commandero

Indigenous Liberian or non-indigenous Liberian?
