Comment | Women over 45 are working far longer than their mothers did, but the workplace has done nothing to accomodate them. It's not often JennaPrice cries during an interview

It isn’t very often that I start crying midway through an interview. I’ve interviewed Marian Baird, professor of gender and employment relations at the University of Sydney, so many times over the years. But those first interviews were always about how women could get back into the workforce after the babies arrived; and then, later, why and how childcare should be an important consideration for employers.

The nitty gritty of these lives under pressure will soon be revealed. Baird is about to release the preliminary results from a national benchmarking survey of mature workers in Australia. It’s the result of a collaboration between the University of Sydney and Curtin. She says the figures show older women workers are being smashed by their range of responsibilities. And when I say older, I mean women over 45.

JennaPrice Replies here- basically - MenToo Boringggggg

al_mq JennaPrice This is so very true for UK women too a lot of us don’t have the quality of education and low expectations for young women leaving school in those days we’ve really had to forge our own path. So many military spouses in their 40’s will only have state pension.

deniseshrivell JennaPrice You think most men over 45 are in any better position?

JennaPrice A woman in a relationship with a man oftens earns less so her job is more likely to be the one risked, she’s usually the one to ask for time off/flexibility for caring responsibilities. You always protect the higher salary and due to the gender gap it’s often the man’s.

JennaPrice You fought for your equality. Now suffer the same as men have done for generations. Sucked in. You never saw your grandfathers skipping and whistling their way to work. What else did you expect?

JennaPrice The constant hiss of women these days. Their own worst enemies, victim mentalities, inferiority complexes.

JennaPrice Now that women have equality in Australia, are you saying they should retire earlier than men? Hope not, that would be sexist and not equal!

JennaPrice Didn’t women fight to join men in the workplace? What’s the problem?

JennaPrice Crocodile tears from Jenna. Maybe she should start pushing back against mass migration that has been crushing young people's wages? Why train the young or the old, when you can import a 'skilled migrant' from India and virtually have them pay you for the privilege? auspol

JennaPrice And about 100% of men are pressured to continue working.

sarzberry JennaPrice We have taken on board and believed in the corporate message. Farm out your children at a young age to local creches. Later on we find job insecurity and the gig economy. Big business has done us over.

JennaPrice Women are almost solely responsible for the uplift in workforce participation over the last generation (with older men also delaying retirement).

JennaPrice Equality 🤷🏻‍♂️

JennaPrice Welcome....equality is not as great as you thought!!...now all we need is equal representation of women of all ages in our sewers and alike...terrible, physical, labourious and filthy!! goyougoodthing...? Me work the job!, seems like women want the job to work with them!?!?

JennaPrice Mothers of those over 45 did not work. They staid at home to look after the family which is the most important job of all. The reason kids are as bad as they are these days is because they are raised by strangers.

JennaPrice . I'm assuming this means Jenna Price is over 45 and not happy with her workplace arrangements. And can't think of an excuse to quit her job. And couldn't get another one, anyway. Hence, this is a pressing issue for 'all women' everywhere.

JennaPrice Some 'career', for a career woman.

JennaPrice Us baby boomers have brought this upon ourselves. We have constantly supported governments that have focused on maximising corporate & individual dollars instead of on future living. We have seen the $ as being the saviour, when in essence it is the cause.

JennaPrice Perhaps they should have stayed home, raised their families as nature intended instead of wanting to have it all! They got it all, and now don’t like the results?

PCKJ3627 JennaPrice The answer is here. Make the 1% share the technology. Wadda ya reckon mr A.LABOUR.P Albanese Ya think your mate ScuM.🤮mo will tell Rupert for us?

JennaPrice Are they seeking special treatment?

JennaPrice It's so true but don't forget the men either. We are now expected to work till 70. How will this be physically and mentally possible if workplaces are not already redesigning career structures to cater for the gradual decline of output with age?

Woman killed by falling tree in ParkvilleA woman has died after being hit by a large 106-year-old tree that came crashing down onto the footpath at Princes Park in Parkville. That is so sad and my condolences to her family and friends. A shocking story. She’d have had no warning at all. Just a woman out jogging, something she would have regularly. Just heart breaking. Someone doing something so everyday, doesn’t show up back at home, at work, or for her family. Because she can’t! Unbelievable 💔 thinking of everyone who knew and loved her 😢
