The flow of international students into Australia came to an almost complete stop in April. Just 30 international students arrived or returned to Australia in April, down from 43,380 in April 2019.

International students made up almost 40 per cent of the population of some Melbourne suburbs last year, contributing billions to neighbourhood economies.

Carlton, which had 9633 resident foreign students, and Clayton with 9506, were the second and third most populous suburbs for international students in the nation.Other suburbs where overseas students made up more than 10 per cent of the population include North Melbourne, Southbank, Docklands, Box Hill, Kingsbury, Burwood, Parkville and Footscray.

Peter Hurley, the report’s author and policy fellow at the Mitchell Institute, said the steep drop in student numbers this year would deliver a heavy blow to local businesses, even after lockdown restrictions are lifted.“There is clearly economic activity associated with large numbers of people and if you remove them, that is going to have an effect on all the local businesses … we’re talking about thousands of people who are no longer living in certain suburbs simply because of the coronavirus.

You seem to have Tourette’s syndrome. One minute it’s the world is ending no foreign students & the next government says more foreign students than ever will come to Australia’ 🙄 & Asian cool? Sorry, never seen it 😳

What does “they bring street life and a certain kind of north-east Asian cool” actually mean? I’ve not seen that in Clayton ever. Clayton Road needs a complete overhaul and clean up because of all the dingy take aways and restaurants. Cool it is not. Unsightly it is.

BLM before any of that. White power and white privilege since first contact by British white demon terrorists must end in Australia first!

Australia may see 'an upsurge' of Chinese students despite Beijing's warnings | Sky News AustraliaDespite Beijing’s warnings, it is possible there will be a surge in Chinese students choosing to study in Australia in the coming months, according to The Australian’s Paul Kelly.\n\nIn a sign of further worsening of diplomatic relations, The Chinese Education Ministry released a statement last week urging its students to “do a risk assessment” and strongly reconsider travelling to Australia to attend university.\n\nThe statement said during the coronavirus pandemic “there were multiple discriminating incidents against Asians in Australia”.\n\nForeign Minister Marise Payne disputed this and accused Beijing of peddling a “disinformation” campaign.\n\nThe comments come as the federal government confirmed on Friday it will allow international students to return to Australia from July on a”pilot basis.”\n\nChinese students make up a whopping 27 per cent of Australia’s international student population.\n\nMr Kelly said despite Beijing’s “time honoured” campaign against China, Australia remains a very attractive destination for international students.\n \n“The fascinating thing, and I think there is a lot of awareness of this in China, Australia has done very well combating coronavirus,” he said.\n\n'Particularly compared to Britain and America who are rival student markets.\n\nYou can’t rule out the possibility of a strong return of Chinese students.'\n Of course there will be, there was never any doubt about that. They will continue to increase in numbers to make Australia even more dependent on them. I pointed it out several times that I don’t like them in Australia but they still keep coming. Why? They have nowhere to go. But I must say that some universities are good for nothing, money hungry only and should be shut down. They can’t survive without China’s bloody money. As American has started to reject Chinese students, those students will mostly turn to Australia with no many choices. Australia universities prepare to take them like drugs and addict to it again.
