The NRMA is warning drivers that they could face a traffic fine of $344. 7NEWS

The NRMA has warned motorists they could face a fine of $344 and a loss of three demerit points if their passenger is distracting them by using their mobile phone.

This means if a passenger is facetiming or their phone display is simply facing the driver they could be fined. “Evidently, this gives police wide discretion - including where a passenger’s mobile phone visual display is visible to the driver.” It comes after Queensland’s Department of Transport and Main Roads warned of another little-known road rule that could result in a fine and a loss of three demerit points.
