OPINION: The great playground urban legend is coming true for Australian schools

Most schools across the country only have plans in place in the event of extreme weather conditions like natural disasters.according to the Bureau of Meteorology. The average maximum temperature last year was 30.69 degrees Celsius, and the year as a whole was 1.52 degrees above the long-term average.

I've been thinking a lot about the concept of"the new normal" in the aftermath of the devastating bushfires ravaging Australia. These children will not know any differently because unrelenting summer heatwaves will be all they will ever know.

In the 80s/90s we got dismissed if it was 36+ at 2:30pm at 12:30pm if it was 40. So it’s not an urban legend. It happened. In the late 90s when we had air conditioning in high school we stayed at school.

Fkn oath school was out at 40! It is NOT an urban legend, it is real - well it was in the early 80s anyway. Several social factors have changed tho - mum's working for one. In 1984 everybody's mum was at home so an early end to the day wasn't the end of the world. NOT a myth.

Saw the image & headline and immediately thought there was a psycho on the loose putting razor blades in the slippery-dips!

We used to believe that one, then we realised the teachers kept the thermometer in the staff room fridge.

Is Ash Barty the best thing to happen to Australian sport? After decades of bad — and often shocking — behaviour by Australian sports stars, Ash Barty's humble nature and fierce ability is fulfilling the country's dream of celebrating a true champion. Aust Open all going well. Barty progressing and Kyrgios out. Ash Barty is certainly somewhere at the top of the list. Why? Her admirable qualities: Strength Modesty Confidence Compassion Maturity Incredible for someone so young. Ash Barty certainly set the bar higher for our tennis players. Out with the spoilt entitled brat attitudes and in with the disciplined athletes appreciating the opportunities their talent affords them.

Chinese-Australian parents urge Government to quarantine school studentsPetitions urging the NSW Government to ban students who may have been infected with coronavirus from returning to school are circulated widely by concerned members of Sydney's Chinese community. Leave them home. Sounds logical Can we also stop incoming students returning to Melbourne after Chinese New year? No reason they can't return to their studies after this virus settles down.
