Painter, a former homeless woman, is holding an art exhibition at the East Melbourne hotel that housed her during the pandemic

At the beginning of 2020, Painter was living on the streets, struggling with addiction and the physical and mental scars from an abusive relationship.- hosted by the owner of serviced apartments in East Melbourne whom Painter credits with saving her life.Wayne Taylor

“I never intended to take the homeless on or change anyone’s life,” says Birches owner Jennie Kerr. “But without them, I wouldn’t have survived. I was getting paid by the government, so I could still run my business.” The pair struck up a friendship during the long months of lockdown. ’I could just see a diamond in the rough here,” Ms Kerr says.

Painter says Ms Kerr saved her life. “There’s not enough superlatives in the world to express it. It’s the first time I felt safe since I was 16. I am 46 now. That’s enabled me to get off drugs. She changed my life in every way that I’ve been wishing and wanting to be able to do. I’ve always said I just need one person to treat me with a little bit of respect and watch me flourish.”

Here is a positive model, house homeless people, support them to achieve their purpose , and clean up drug use. A far better alternative than the MSIR model down the road.

Footage of mass cremations shows devastation of India’s war with COVID-19 | Sky News AustraliaHeartbreaking footage from India shows the devastating toll COVID-19 is taking on the country where the dead in New Delhi are burnt in mass cremations using makeshift pyres.\n\nIndia has so far recorded more than 17 million coronavirus cases with almost 200,000 deaths.\n\nOn Monday the country recorded over 352,000 cases and 2,812 deaths. Very sad but this virus will target the vulnerable the less hygienic and the under privileged communities with poor immune systems. God bless all that have lost their lives. This is absolutely shocking, I cried buckets when I first viewed this footage, absolutely shocky, no other words suffice. And therein lies the problem. Dealing with and around people who have died from covid, with nothing more than a mask or bandanna. The rich ones get full ppe, so there is that I suppose.
