The bold plan to slash Sydney commutes and boost incomes by $18b | Jess_Irvine

Sydney’s economy will get an almost $20 billion boost if government invested in affordable housing in the inner city, slashing commute times and increasing job opportunities for the city’s workers, researchers say.

"I get up at about 5am and I probably leave home around quarter to 6am. There's no train station where I live in Camden, so I have to drive to the station at Campbelltown and the commuter car park is full there by about 7am," he said. Under the scenario modelled by the researchers, workers on average would enjoy an estimated travel time saving of $2554 per year. That’s the average value of each worker’s time spent not commuting under the better planning scenario, representing $2.3 billion of time a year. This time could be enjoyed as leisure, or earning more income.

“Supporting affordable housing in the right places for Sydney households below median incomes has a large, lasting and plausible growth and productivity impact at least on par with transport infrastructure and far outweighing the cost to government.”

Why this young mum is leaving western SydneySophie Coombes loves her Penrith life, but after 10 years in Sydney's west she says the rising temperatures are making life unbearable. TRANSLATION: It gets hot in Australia in summer time. Damn, that's some hard-hitting journalism right there. I vote we shoot 85 nuclear bombs straight into the heart of the sun. That will show that pesky weather who's boss. The NLP are taking a massive risk with there insistence of keeping coal in the environment package, just because they have no answer on how to convert the economy away from fossil fuels. We see this on border patrol having little trust in the security service to handle the job. stephenhawes2 Well the climate scientists did get that one wrong, no? Doing away with coal burning because it was going to get far windier only that did not happen did it? So now night time heat is unbearable and energy prices are rising.

Sydney Opera House ads appeared next to anti-women YouTube videosAdvertisements for The Sydney Opera House were running on anti-feminist YouTube videos criticising single and working mums sparking fresh calls for greater regulation of online advertising giants. I didn't know Australians were fascists. People often don’t get a choice where you tube or other social media place their ads. I have informed companies before that their ads are appearing along side really dubious and sexual things. They say that was not their decision but would look into it 😞 Usually the companies won't have the access to decide where their ads would appear. YouTube is already shit atm plz don't create another adpocalypse... This is a problem of YouTube not the advertiser
