The former Sky News Australia chief is now a central player in the biggest upheaval in British broadcasting for more than three decades. Europe correspondent BevanShields reports.

In the eyes of his critics, Angelos Frangopoulos is less of a journalist and more of an importer. The man who built Sky News Australia and turned it into a right-wing megaphone is on a mission to do the same in the United Kingdom, they claim. And it doesn’t stop there: apparently the ultimate goal is the ‘Foxification’ of Britain’s broadcast media.

Backers with deep pockets love the concept, ploughing more than £60 million into the venture by telecommunications moguls Andrew Cole and Mark Schneider. US media giant Discovery was the first on board, followed by hedge fund manager Sir Paul Marshall and Dubai-based investment group Legatum. “People have found other ways to get their breaking news – that changed many, many years ago,” Frangopoulos says. “The old ‘news on the hour every hour’ format has been totally disrupted by digital media.”

Frangopoulos says GB News will easily adhere to the rules: “The impartiality rules here in the UK are a lot more overt and a lot more watched than what they are in Australia. The regulations are very strict and that is something we will embrace at GB News. But we are really confident that the impartiality rules actually are there to encourage debate and discussion.”

BevanShields Sky is a failure in Aus, no one pays a subscription so they air it for nothing & still get a tiny audience. This will be worse, Brits aren’t as dumb as Pauline Hansen voters & Americans.
