A Yarraville miniatures artist is on a mission to re-create Melbourne's grungy landmarks

David Hourigan with his model of the late, much loved Olympic Doughnuts van that stood outside Footscray station. Some people look at a former doughnut shack or a boarded-up chicken shop and see evidence of Melbourne’s urban decay.

One is the Olympic Doughnuts van, which closed a few years ago, having stood outside Footscray railway station for almost 40 years.Hourigan’s model features the van’s familiar faded signs, but also tiny clay doughnuts, its distinct dolphin jam dispenser, a small trolley and plastic buckets made from the nozzle of an eyeglass cleaner bottle.

The Yarraville chicken shop model, based on a closed shop in O’Farrell Street, with a mural of three dancing chickens, is currently on display at Brunswick Street Gallery. As a child, he would build kit models of tanks and aeroplanes.

Coalition victory in Melbourne seat of Chisholm hands Morrison majority governmentScott Morrison now has a clear majority government, after the Liberals retained the Melbourne seat of Chisholm. Chisholm is one of the seats they used the fraudulent signs impersonating the AEC, and they won it by a hairline. That is victory by fraud, no other way to look at it. Hope an appeal is lodged. Those illegal signs - designed to look like official AEC signs and telling Chinese speaking voters they their votes needed to be liberal in order to be correct - were utterly despicable. auspol Given the controversy over the Liberal dirty tricks there will there be recount and perhaps court of disputed returns? Bill billshortenmp as current Labor leader, please fight this one all the way. Don’t let these bastards get away with bastardry without a fight!!
