A government-provided app — helping businesses store their customers' contact details — is missing from the Apple app store on the first day of a new contact tracing system in the Northern Territory.

The Thanksgiving holiday in the United States has been blamed for a delay to a key part of the Northern Territory's new coronavirus contact tracing system.But the NT Government says the Thanksgiving holiday in the US delayed the rolloutThe new rules require anyone spending more than 15 minutes at a long list of venues — including hospitality businesses, gyms and places of worship — to check in with their name and contact details.

While that may sound familiar to people in some other Australian states, where similar regimes are already in place, the regulations were announced by the Northern Territory GovernmentBut as of lunchtime on Monday, a government-provided app designed to support the change — which lets people submit their details using QR Codes — was nowhere to be found for iPhone users.

Some hospitality venues have told the ABC they are unsure of their obligations while they wait for the app to come online, while others have turned to pen and paper."We've seen one of the platforms, the Google platform, has gone live, but we have seen a delay with the Apple platform," Health Minister Natasha Fyles said.

"So we apologise to Territorians keen to use the Apple platform, but [it was] a little bit out of our hands with Thanksgiving.", but businesses are welcome to use alternative storage methods if they prefer.The Northern Territory Opposition has criticised the government over the teething issues, describing them as "another setback" for small businesses.
