Isolation rooms at one Victorian hospital have been pushed to capacity with patients waiting more than a week for the results of coronavirus tests as swabs piled up at a Melbourne laboratory. |EXCLUSIVE

Isolation rooms at one Victorian hospital have been pushed to capacity, with patients waiting more than a week for the results of coronavirus tests as swabs piled up at a Melbourne laboratory.

Ms Giles said on Friday that some people with coronavirus symptoms who had been tested more than a week ago had not received their results and some asymptomatic people who were tested two weeks ago had not been told if they had the virus. They tested about 200 symptomatic people and another 800 residents from different workplaces – including the local aluminium smelter, disability providers, council and retail workers – via pop-up clinics on the main street.

The Victorian Health Department has been warning coronavirus results could take up to five days, due to the high volume of tests being conducted – more than 350,000 overall.
