I ask. Should Darwin people continue to hold Japanese people responsible for the treatment they received. Should they seek compensation for this. Or should they forgive and forget and move on

The weren't interested in Aust, they were interested in demoralizing USA, that was an argument run for Yamamoto, where he believed USA would be demoralized if their battle cruisers and major bases were decimated and wouldn't retaliate. Japan moved quickly. Based on false premises

Not sure which is worse, Japan's then swollen head pushed by Yamamoto, thinking they could win, where they threw in all they had & paid the ultimate price, or Churchill's betrayal of Singapore etc... Nazis had no designs on either of the Americas, they were focused on Europe.

When USA declared war on Japan, Germany had a pact with Japan and then Germany declared war on USA. Thus, Churchill managed to get USA involved in fighting Germany in Europe.

The map where Germany was taking over South America was false, a British forgery, it failed to get USA into the war with Germany. Churchill then concocted Pearl Harbour and fall of Singapore (he didn't care about Asia/Pacific), to get USA to declare war on Japan.

billshortenmp C'mon Bill. We need a Royal Commission into the bombing of Darwin. Write another letter to the PM and then have a press conference to tell everyone you did it.

No. Japan wasn't thinking at all of bombing Pearl Harbour nor about Singapore etc... USA had a non-interventionist policy, Churchill wanted USA to enter the war & fight Germany. He fed info to Sempill who fed info to Yamamoto, who then lobbied for Japan to bomb Pearl Harbour.

Right Wingers wanted Australia to be taken over by the Japanese all the way to Brisbane on Churchills direction.... A LABOR P.M said No Way and we fought them keeping them from our shores. Thanks ALP for not bowing to those the right wanted to bow to.

Why doesn't more of Australia know about the bombing of Darwin? There are two stories those who are born and raised in Darwin hear time and time again: Cyclone Tracy and the Bombing of Darwin. But in other parts of the country, why does it seem the latter is often left to the history books? If you denigrate Australian history, it has consequences. But you won’t learn. I knew about the bombing of Darwin and I’m not Australian. Is this really a “thing”? Just like Pearl Harbour TPTB knew days before if not months of the imminent attack but needed it to happen to progress into the war. We are always just cannon fodder whether we are front line or just civilians believing our government has our best interests at heart.
