Telstra has partnered with a satellite internet service, opening the way for direct competition with Starlink. Can the telco compete with Elon Musk, and is this the end for NBN Co's Sky Muster?

Then, in April 2021, Starlink turned on coverage in parts of NSW and Victoria, and later expanded to areas of Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania and Queensland.

Tony Margaritis installed Starlink at this farm house in Marraweeny in central Victoria, replacing an unreliable fixed wireless service. Sky Muster has no hardware fee and is advertised online at $34.95 a month for the most basic package, or twice that for the premium one. Anecdotally, some of those Sky Muster customers have gone to Starlink, while others may have chosen fixed wireless, which is becoming more common as the mobile network expands.Submissions to a recent

"We haven't seen that it's delivered the quality that people have expected from that service and paid for the service … and we end up having to then deal with the complaints and the issues associated with the service." It's launched two thirds of a planned constellation of 648 satellites, and plans to sell internet services around the world later this year.

abclandline Go Telstra!

abclandline Why did it take some competition to do something about country internet …Telstra rouges thought they had cornered the market starlink fantastic

abclandline My money's on Elon

Good luck. I have been tried to cancel my Telstra service - because Telstra unable to provide Internet service - since Nov 2021. Telstra hasn't completed the task!

I live 5 km from a town of 8000 ppl. No NBN option other than Skymuster. Totally dudded by NBNCO. Would consider Starlink but too expensive. Hopefully 5g internet isnt far away

I regularly hit 300mbps on my Starlink connection. Only thing that would make me change is gigabit fibre running direct to my house

Telstra and the NBN can’t compete with StarLink in the cities let alone regional areas with StarLink around 4-5 times faster then the NBN.

the NBN was the expensive solution .......5G was always an alternative.......now satellite

Lol, sure.

Regional customers of Telstra fixed line NBN owe Telstra nothing, certainly not loyalty for the high cost low return service they get.

Good luck. Russia has refused to launch the next tranche of One Web satellites unless the UK Govt divests its ownership stake.

Good
