Tasmania’s Liberal Premier Jeremy Rockliff has released a statement threatening to dissolve parliament on Monday morning unless the impasse with his former attorney general Elise Archer is resolved.
“This morning, I wrote to Elise Archer and requested that she advise Tasmanians of her decision as to whether she will remain in Parliament or not,” Mr Rockliff said. “If I do not receive a decision by 9am AEDT, Monday, October 9, I will have no option other than to request the Governor dissolve the Parliament and issue writs for a General Election,” he said.
The letter comes after attorney general Elise Archer is reconsidering her decision to step down from parliament. Ms Archer resigned on Friday amid a series of allegations of bullying within her own office and a leaked text message scandal.
