The Tasmanian Liberal Party has been accused of electoral bribery during the 2021 state election campaign, with documents obtained by the ABC revealing the party pledged hundreds of thousands of dollars in community grants using a taxpayer-funded program.

The ABC has obtained a form given to candidates by the Liberal Party's campaign headquarters which asks those requesting grants to provide a single page of details about the project

The Integrity Commission raised concerns that the use of grants schemes in that way did not meet the principles of accountability, openness, fairness or value for money. The ABC has also obtained a series of letters written by former premier Peter Gutwein to one Liberal candidate, Madeleine Ogilvie, formally confirming eight separate grant commitments. The letters are dated either April 19 or April 28, during the campaign, and say the funding "is provided as part of the Liberals' Local Communities Facilities Fund" — a taxpayer-funded scheme.

"They are public officials, they are exercising powers that are entrusted to them by the public, expending public money, so they should be doing it for public purposes," Professor Sampford said.

Is this perhaps why Peter Gutwein recently made a shock decision to resign from politics? It's usually an adulterous affair by a good Christian family man or corruption taspol auspol
