The numbers they land on are the topics they're given. This week, he talks to Tanya Plibersek. The 50-year-old federal MP for Sydney and Labor’s shadow minister for education and training served as deputy opposition leader from 2013 to 2019.
My parents were little kids during World War II and grew up very poor, on packed-dirt floors in three-room homes with multiple brothers and sisters. They were good savers and lived frugally but I felt confident as a child that there’d always be a meal on the table and a roof over my head.
It definitely takes a toll on family life. In the six years I was a deputy leader, there wouldn’t have been a week that I wasn’t away several nights a week. You need a very supportive family structure for that. I’m very, very lucky that my husband is supportive, and I feel very grateful my relationship with my children is strong. If that was a source of conflict at home, it would be very difficult.POLITICSI never was as confident as other people [about Labor winning the 2019 federal election].
Every election is different. But if you join the Labor Party you’ve got an ambition for a better world and an idea about what needs to change. That can be frightening for people, when you’re talking about change and your opponents are running scare campaigns. The campaign against us claimed we were going to introduce death taxes. It was a lie but an effective lie. [Labor leader] Anthony [Albanese] is doing the right thing in trying to narrow the argument to the few big changes he wants to make.
mrbenjaminlaw Let’s be honest she is a socialist who boasts how she wants to help people but punishes whoever makes it out to the top. Her agenda has always been me earning lot of money is ok but everyone else who does is evil.
mrbenjaminlaw Alls labour had to do was shut their mouth and you would have won the unlosable election. Penny Billy and you couldn’t help yourselves.
mrbenjaminlaw If there is such a ‘personal cost’ Tanya (to you, and/or to your kids) - then why keep doing it? And don’t give me the ‘for the good of the community’ crap - why not go get a job in Sydney that DOESN’T involve such a cost to you & your family?
mrbenjaminlaw ‘I’m pro-choice, pro-contraception and pro-same-sex marriage.’ ... so basically not a Catholic at all ... but you like the Pope - a pedo protector
mrbenjaminlaw She is the most divisive and feminist person on the planet and she single handily drove the women and quota agenda and it backfired
mrbenjaminlaw God, you gotta be tough and tanya_plibersek is tough. And, wow, don't we need people like her in politics. Thanks mrbenjaminlaw I was starting to doubt. You've restored my faith with this!
mrbenjaminlaw I am a lifelong Labor voter - haven't read this article but spare me the views of this smug intellectual elite.
