'Unbearably painful' CCTV footage of Tanya Day's fall in police cell released

Less than an hour into her incarceration, security footage shows Ms Day standing up and stumbling, before falling forward and slamming her head into the concrete wall above her bed.

She said she would have altered her course of action had she known the 55-year-old had fallen several times. She wept and looked to Ms Day's family as she gave evidence, and apologised for the distress those tests caused."I actually felt sorry for Ms Day because she'd been kept in a dirty, foul smelling concrete cell for four hours. But Ms Harrup's evidence appeared to infuriate Ms Day's daughter, Apryl Watson, who stormed out of court and shook her head during the evidence.

Can someone please explain why the blame for this woman's death must be placed on the Police when she got horrendously drunk in public.Obviously she did this frequently so is it not for her family to send her to rehab? Why must anyone else be blamed for her stupidity

acab

The poor girl was disoriented, probably drunk. I've done worse than that so many times that can't be counted. Kind of f sad that this is how the world will remember her.

So she was so drunk she couldn't walk and fell on the bed again, but so badly she bangged her head and if you did not see that 1 second of footage you would not have known she was injured as she just lay on the bed again. Awful bad luck that only a padded cell may have prevented.
