The Tamil family at the centre of a long-running immigration dispute have been reunited in Perth after the father Nades Murugappan flew out from the Christmas Island detention centre with six-year-old daughter Kopika.

The family had been in detention since March 2018 after their visas expired and their Biloela home in rural central Queensland was raided by authorities.

The issue came to a head after four-year-old Tharnicaa was airlifted to Perth Children’s Hospital where she has received treatment for pneumonia and a blood infection. On Tuesday Immigration Minister Alex Hawke announced the family would be released from held detention and permitted to move to Perth where they will remain in community detention while pursing ongoing litigations.

They came here illegally, they need to be sent back to sri lanka, from what i understand the father has already been back there a couple of times. Too much of our money has already been spent on them...they need to sent back

So, detention in Perth is better than detention on CI then?

The Tamil Family SHOULD be ALLOWED to RETURN HOME, when their Little one is well & released from hospital. Scott Morrison, you need to LISTEN, the PEOPLE have SPOKEN ! Be DEAFt your own PERIL, Don't forget it the PEOPLE who do the VOTING !

This is rediculous. We have had 100s con their way off Naru via the Labor Party sponsered Medi-Vac Bill, fronted by a few Political Dimwits. Settle the family here and be done with it. No risk of the boats starting up again.

Despite their Christmas Island reprieve, the Biloela Tamil family's future remains uncertainWhile the Murugappan family have been granted temporary release into community detention in Perth, the government is making no promises about their permanent resettlement. Australia has a lot to learn about the mighty smite of God. Give the poor family closure. Send them back to Biloela.
