Steve Smith has been recalled to the Australian T20 side for the first time in three-and-a-half years as his remarkable re-integration with the national side continues.
Fresh off his record-breaking Ashes series when he repeatedly drew comparisons with Sir Donald Bradman as he dragged the tourists to a 2-2 draw that enabled them to retain the urn, Smith will wear the coloured clothing for Australia's home series against Sri Lanka and Pakistan. David Warner was also selected in the squad, which gathers 12 months out from a home World Cup in the one format Australia is yet to conquer.While there were no massive surprises, hard-hitting top order batsman D'arcy Short was perhaps the most notable name missing, with the Hobart Hurricanes star a regular in the T20 side over the past 18 months.Australian selector Trevor Hohns said the squad had been put together with next year's World Cup in mind.
"It is almost a year to the day until Australia hosts the men's Twenty20 World Cup and we have selected this squad with that in mind," Hohns said.
