The WA premier smacked down Sydney’s “latte and Pinot grigio-sipping” commentators who have been critical of his hard border stance.

“I think it shows a grievous and shocking misunderstanding of WA,” he told reporters on Friday.

Premier Mark McGowan has thrown shade at Sydney commentators he says do not understand WA. Picture: AAP Image/Richard WainwrightHe also reiterated he would not set an arbitrary date to reopen the borders and would wait until the health authorities gave that advice. “I’m not surprised really that WA has gone alone. We’ve forged our own pathway along this COVID route … I intend to continue on the pathway … caution has worked,” he said.Mr McGowan also said Prime Minister Scott Morrison was welcome to come to WA without needing to quarantine, provided he did not mingle closely with people.Earlier, Mr Morrison said WA had a different border and economy to most other states and territories, and had no large border towns.

It’s times like these that put into sharp focus the myth of the “Aussie spirit” mate ship etc. everyone in it for themselves. A load of self indulgent crap. Time this country took a hard look at itself.

He will come crawling back when mining enters its next contraction cycle. Short memories in the west.

Umm, WA is its own country. The history of WA reveals that in 1931 Western Australia, by popular vote, seceded by way of referendum from the Commonwealth of Australia. Check it out.

Hahaha and this dickhead is from Sydney

How condescending. He’s implying that we don’t work hard. If we have a latte or a glass of wine that’s coz we damn well deserve it. If he’s got a problem then say no to federal money too. Work even harder and make your own damn money to support covid hit businesses and people

He is the furthest away from the east coast, and is the most gun shy. We have to many gutless Premiers, more interested in themselves than their state or the country.

SamanthaX_real is this in relation to your Bondi cafe real estate tweet? 🤔🤣

Really. But we pay your over inflated salary

he told Scotmo to go and get ...f.d.....Mark is the man...mark for President

I love this well done

But I don’t drink coffee or wine

Ahem... If you want to see a persons true character. give them extraordinary powers & observe how they use them

MarkMcClown Another health dictator panicking like it's the end of the world. OPEN YOUR BORDERS and get the Australian economy going so those millions you put out of work can try to earn a living! nazi auspol COVID19Aus

I love how this guy sticks up for his State .

McGowan is a coward and a weak politician, tough while he doesn't have to pay the bill. Im.sure if the PM stopped funding job keeper etc for WA his tune would change. These Premiers are weak one trick ponies all of them pathetic.. WA is not its own sovereignty

MarkMcGowanMP just become your own country already, like WA has always wanted to be. Lived there 15 years, that was enough.

He does realise the latte sippers support his border bans?

How about his smack-down of the slovenly beer drinker from the Shire?

Pretty sad they don't even have lattes and pinot grigio in WA yet.

Good on him.

All states and territories, except WA, support easing coronavirus border restrictions by ChristmasAll but one of Australia's states and territories have agreed to look at a 'hotspot model' to guide travel across most of the country as part of a goal to ease coronavirus-related border restrictions by Christmas. We west Aussies are so lucky. I'm grateful to our premier for taking a hard approach to our borders, but also grateful to the efforts of other Australians (esp Melbournians) going through onerous lockdowns to keep us all safe and healthy. political_alert The WA restriction model is protecting its residents from exposure. Notice how there’s no recent outbreaks... The idiots a Nine Media are still lifting rocks looking for ways of attacking McGowan. Radio 6pr is an absolute joke, was once a terrific station.

We're not in a recession, WA Premier says, as state goes it alone on bordersWA becomes the only state or territory not to sign up to Prime Minister Scott Morrison's plan to lift coronavirus restrictions by December, with Mr Morrison accepting there are 'specific circumstances' that hold the state apart. World wide news now indicates we are no longer in a pandemic status. Further, that the statistics/percentages put out by the cdc in the US were misleading. Why are WA people's lives being restricted based on what appears to be a misleading pandemic being prolonged for political good if other states are a risk to wa they should keep the border shut just like other states should do. Good, stand up to the bullying of Morrison and Berejiklian they are irrelevant to the rest of the nation.
