Older Australian renters are being pushed into aged care long before they're ready due to escalating costs and insufficient quality of housing, a new report has found.

"Everyone should be able to live life to the fullest as they get older… But the housing crisis is locking more and more Australians out of that dream," said Anglicare Executive Director Kasey Chambers. Over 70 per cent of those elderly living in private rentals believed housing costs to be a barrier preventing them ageing at home, compared to just 15 per cent of homeowners polled.forced out of their homes if more is not done to help improve housing affordabilityNearly half of renters over 65 live in poverty as a result of spending over 30 per cent of their income on housing, according to the report.
