Sydney scientists have shown a method of IVF treatment which creates an environment that more closely mimics the fallopian tube significantly boosts live birth rates.

Older-style incubators house more than one embryo in a single chamber, which are routinely removed for observation. They also use fluids that need to be changed during the six-day incubation process., found the Geri incubator increased the chance of live birth by 12.2 per cent, compared with a standard benchtop incubator.One in 20 babies are now conceived using IVF in Australia, according to the Australia and New Zealand Assisted Reproduction Database managed by UNSW statisticians.

“But this new result isn’t just showing more positive pregnancy tests, where you pee on a stick,” Dr Phua said. “This is babies in arms.”Janie Barrett
