Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt has told Sky News the government is “not casting stones,” but after the Black Lives Matter protests in Melbourne some Victorians clearly saw a double standard. Victoria has recorded over 500 new cases in the past week, and approximately ten per cent of the case load have been admitted to hospital. The Victorian government issued stay at home orders for the entire metropolitan Melbourne region which will include the Mitchell Shire.
The federal government’s primary task is to support Victoria with both military assistance and contact tracing, according to Mr Hunt. He said the nation is coming together to support Victoria by offering practical action, necessary personnel, and remote tracing. “We’ve brought in national support, assistance from other states and territories, and assistance from the national incident centre”. “New South Wales is doing a herculean job in helping with remote tracing in Victoria”.
