NSW recorded 23 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm on Friday night; 21 of the cases are linked to the Avalon cluster while the other two have an unknown source. Health authorities are however confident they will find a link to the Avalon cluster.
State Premier Gladys Berejiklian is expecting to see a similar number of positive cases on Sunday, flagging the possibly of the Northern Beaches lockdown being extended to other suburbs or the whole city. “We want people essentially just to stay home tonight and the next few nights so that we can ensure the virus doesn’t spread,” Ms Berejiklian said. If nothing changes, the Northern Beaches lockdown will end at 12.01am on Christmas Eve.
