Minute-by-minute report: Join Will Unwin for updates as Switzerland and Cameroon get their campaigns under way at Al Janoub Stadium

There are some big hitters entering the World Cup fray today: Brazil, the unemployed Cristiano Ronaldo, to name but two. There are few big hitters, however, than Xherdan Shaqiri’s calves. The Swiss international has 109 caps to his name in his 31 years. Experience is a theme of thissquad; there are three players with a century of international appearances to their name, not to mention Haris Seferovic on 98 and 33-year-old Yann Sommer.

Obviously, the fact Brazil are also in Group G makes this a must-win game for Switzerland and Cameroon. The Africans are not at their historic best but there is plenty of quality running throughout the side. From Andre Onana in net to the in form Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting at the other end of the pitch, Cameroon can give most teams a game of their day. The finished third in last year’s Africa Cup of Nations, so they know how to progress in a tournament.

Germany players cover mouths at World Cup in FIFA protestGermany&x27;s players covered their mouths for their team photo before their opening World Cup match in an apparent rebuke of FIFA&x27;s clampdown on plans to wear armbands to protest discrimination in host nation Qatar. 9NewsMelb If you are in a country you have to follow their system, shame on them for doing that. And the victory of the Japanese men was a harsh response to them, so that they knows putting their hands on their mouths is supposed to be after the pain of loss. 🤭💔🤣 Why don’t you focus on your job and report the scores of the game and how well Japan played. Not some political agenda you’d like to force people to accept into society. Maybe they should've just focused on football😁 Great job Japan
