Coles and Woolworths have reinstated product limits in Victoria after shoppers stripped the shelves again as Melbourne returns to lockdown.

There are also two-item limits on pasta, rice, flour, sugar, milk, chicken, eggs, frozen food, tissues, hand sanitiser and liquid soaps."The move follows a surge in demand across Victoria overnight and will help ensure more customers have fair access to fresh food and essentials at Woolworths," the supermarket said on Wednesday.

Melburnians depleted stock of some supermarket products following the announcement of renewed restrictions on Tuesday night, but many items remained in plentiful supply. Supermarket workers said frenzied buying was mild compared to the initial bout in March.

Why are people panic buying at all? You can still leave your home for work, shopping, and medical appointments. That means the primary industry shouldn't be too badly disrupted and there shouldn't be any shortage of food or vital products. Calm down, everyone, and let's share.

🤦🏼‍♀️ I’m starting to question the IQ of this country of mine!!!! Do we really have so many stupid people!

GrogsGamut Three potatoes! My Kingdom for three potatoes! (Yes I know I can only have two, hence the Kingdom deal)

Glad they've put limits in place right away this time.

The_Rail_Life 2 potatoes per customer? Wow, harsh.

Only 2 bread? Thanks guys...Now I have to go shopping 2-3 times a week instead of once a week.

I don't get why people are this stupid. Once it eased off last time everyone was fine. We all coped and had enough food. It just makes it frustrating for those of us who try and do a normal weekly shop... And can't get the basics 🤦‍♀️ This is going to be a long 6 weeks.......

Really? This is what you're reporting? Journalism at its finest. How about holding this government to account or asking where they (Andrews and co') came up with the figure of 3000 possible cases.

the panic buy is expected given Victoria is locking down for 6 weeks. Panic mode or survival mode is the first thing that happens. Hope no one got violent or is hurt during the process.

Yes we starved last time didn’t we . These people are sick in the head ... the must have before sharing is not a good quality

As always, stupidity spreads faster than the virus. Sigh 😔

It has been proved that food supply shortages were not seen during the last lockdown. No need to panic.

Supermarkets reinstate product limits after shoppers strip shelvesColes and Woolworths have reinstated product limits in Victoria after shoppers stripped the shelves again as Melbourne returns to lockdown If this is a regular thing, Coles & Woolies NEED to allow for larger families. eg: We shop weekly - We use 2 ctns of milk every day - We eat more than 2 packets of frozen / week - We eat pasta in some form 3-4 times a week We're *forced* to rort using multi shoppers! Coles and Woolworths shareholders must be pulling their hair out!! Both businesses are missing out on sales/profits and not meeting their customers demand need. COL/WOW failing on all levels!! Lift your game. Chinese shoppers going crazy for toilet paper and milk formula. The Chinese should return to their homeland and allow Australians to fight this disease!

Melburnians stock up again as supermarket giants call for calmSome products were depleted at supermarkets following the announcement of renewed restrictions, but many items remained in plentiful supply Foolish jerks everywhere! This shows the limited mental capacity of the people we are dealing with. You can still SHOP FOR ESSENTIALS under the lockdown; just read or listen to the rules. Migrants at it again.
