The coronavirus pandemic's toll on international student enrolments has resulted in the University of Tasmania welcoming its largest group of domestic students, with students like Victoria's Megan Gridley more than happy to make the move to the island state.

Megan Gridley is looking forward to a first year of university that is completely different to her final year of high school.The University of Tasmania has seen an increase in domestic student enrolments

She arrived in Tasmania last Thursday and has started a Bachelor of Marine and Antarctic Science at the University of Tasmania . She was also able to take advantage of the university's School's Recommendation Program, which allowed students to receive an early university offering without needing their ATAR score.This year's international intake is just 685.Classes for the 2021 academic year started this week.

The number of international students commencing study at the university this year is 685, down from 925 last year.federal government passed contentious laws that dramatically increased the cost of some university degrees Higher education policy expert, Andrew Norton said the price signalling in the federal government's reforms was not expected to have a great effect on enrolment numbers.
