They’ve smashed coronavirus numbers and they’re also winning at keeping unemployment at bay. How is this state doing it?

New ABS Labour Force data shows that Australia’s unemployment situation worsened in June as the pandemic continued.

But one state went the other way. As the next graph shows, Queensland was the only state to record an improvement in the unemployment rate between May and June. Amid economic mayhem, the sunshine state unemployment rate dropped from 7.8 per cent to 7.7 per cent.Queensland bucked the unemployment trend in June, dropping by 0.11 per cent. Picture: Supplied. How did they do it? Approximately 53,000 Queenslanders moved into jobs in the month of June, seasonally adjusted.

In Queensland in June the number of full-time workers fell slightly and the number of part time workers rose a lot. A similar pattern was seen in much of the country, as the next graph shows. It is not ideal to see a big rise in part time work, but underemployment in Queensland remains relatively controlled, at 11.2 per cent, below the rate in NSW and Victoria . If it can add more full time workers, that underemployment rate will fall.

Unemployment rate doesn't account for people on job keeper. Could be due to structural differences given the proportion of people in QLD employed in tourism/hospo based industries compared to other states.. Other industries unable to claim job keeper are just laying people off.

Not having a turnip turn quarantine areas into brothels, also not having any disciples of turnip run across the state line

Not buying the panic and hysteria being peddled by media, the secret to success.

There's like 3 people in Queensland ;)

Don’t get excited- it’s nothing to do with anything the premier has done - Queensland is just sparsely populated

How ? Pumpkin scones. Prove me wrong😝

First US federal execution in 17 years takes place after Supreme Court decision | Sky News AustraliaThe United States government has carried out the first federal execution in 17 years after a late-night Supreme Court decision gave the go-ahead.\n\nDaniel Lewis Lee died by lethal injection at a Federal prison in Indiana on Tuesday morning.\n\nThe Oklahoma man received the death sentence over the murders of a family in 1996 as part of a plot to build a whites-only nation in America's North West.\n\nThe execution took place despite objections from civil rights groups, and family members of Lee's victims. Interesting that his victims' remaining family members objected too. Interesting also that a 'white supremacist' man first to be executed after all this time. Dreadful state of affairs. Poor families. Capital punishment is wrong in my view.

WA eased restrictions in June, but the unemployment rate kept climbingWestern Australia records the second-highest unemployment rate in the nation after another significant month of job losses in June, when the state took a big step towards returning to normal life. Because mining doesn't do that much for jobs and property construction requires immigration as an input. Enable industry that isn't parasitic instead of just artificially pumping tax money into the property sector and you will genuinely grow the 'economy' (not just the GDP).
