The former lawyer for adult actress Stormy Daniels, who took Donald Trump to court over a hush-money agreement, has been charged with trying to extort Nike out of up to $26.5million.
Michael Avenatti, who has also been charged with bank and wire fraud, could be jailed for nearly 50 years if he is convicted. US prosecutors in New York have accused him of threatening to use his ability to get publicity to harm Nike. A criminal complaint said he threatened to hold a news conference on the eve of Nike's quarterly earnings call to announce allegations of misconduct by the firm's employees.
