I never have to worry about someone telling me “it’s your unhealthy choices that led to these health problems”. But those living in fat bodies with a clean bill of health are rarely afforded the same luxury. | OPINION by Hannah Vanderheide

on the use of fat suits in Hollywood. The comments found online in response quickly devolved into rants linking obesity and health and attempting to erase the author’s lived experience, working to completely erase the central issues highlighted by Rebecca’s piece.

of the prevalence of weight bias across four countries, including Australia. And it’s been proven to have significant ill effects on a person’s overall health.Allow me to be clear: A person’s health status, or the status we assign their health due to their appearance, is not information that is owed to anyone, aside from perhaps a trusted medical professional. I choose to share my health status publicly because I’m able to do so without the fear of being accused of “bringing this on myself”.

Obesity = Unhealthy

The majority of chronic health conditions are caused by diet and lifestyle choices.. being fat is an issue. It is not healthy.

BMI is an indicator of health. Obesity is not healthy

Great message - lets not let facts get in the way of a good story hey!

Fat people who eat too much shit and are lazy cost the health system a fortune and we’d all be better off if they were whipped into shape.

Why not? It’s true. Fat is unhealthy!

People might not like being called fat but you can’t change the facts that being overweight puts you at risk of many others diseases. Stop pretending it doesn’t because of hurt feelings.

It is based on numbers and %, one sad story should not be used to make conclusions. I hope the sick person gets better, however this article is rubbish.

They are though 😅

So the fat people do or do not have clean bills of health when people say it is their unhealthy lifestyles that led to their health problems. Your article makes absolutely no sense, for a multitude of reasons.

You can’t be obese and given ‘a clean bill of health’ it doesn’t work that way.

Does anyone logic anymore? its the PREVALENCE of fat bodies burdening the health system compared to the prevalence of slender bodies burdening the health system her stupid little personal exception anecdote doesnt alter DATA
