NSW Police Minister David Elliott says he believes hotels will be “handed over” to authorities under changes which force all people arriving in Australia from Sunday to be placed in 14-day quarantine around their landing site.

“I doubt very much that you’d find there’d be many guests at a hotel that would want to be staying at a property where there are potentially carriers of coronavirus,” he told Sky News host Chris Kenny.

When asked about the cost of acquiring hotels for the duration of the quarantine measure, Mr Elliott said based on his briefing “state governments will be covering the costs of the hotels which would probably include some sort of food arrangement, beverages”. “I don’t think that anybody coming off a plane would expect the taxpayer to cover any of those further luxuries over the course of a 14-day period.

They’re not being ‘handed over’. They’re being leased out. Where the hell does this bloke think he is?

Way too late now as the virus has been arriving here for months unhindered. Should have set up leper style colonies much earlier.

Better paying for a hotel room rather than an ICU bed.

Don’t care how it’s done just don’t fuck it up. For Christ sake have ample police all over the bloody hotels

Must have to WELD them in like they did in China.

Why should taxpayers pay?

who will pay for the hotel fee?

Who exactly are these people who are not self-isolating? what countries are they arriving from? what countries do these people originate? I am pretty sure we all know -_-

US pandemic responses 'passed on to Australia' | Sky News AustraliaInternational correspondent Michael Ware says “if you want a peek into the short term future for Australia then you should look (to America)' as the coronavirus pandemic continues. \n\nUS President Donald Trump announced a $2 trillion package for citizens impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic as New York records at least 30,000 cases alone, making up half of the nation’s total number of infections. \n\nMr Ware told Sky News US health experts have said, “America is still two or three weeks away from its peak in cases and in deaths” but citizens are still receiving “conflicting messages, of course, from the White House”.\n\nHe said the president was “one of the world’s most famous germaphobes” and yet his response to the crisis has changed a number of times. \n\nDespite Trump's announcement on Wednesday that he would aim to open up the US by Easter, the president's health advisors asked people to remain cautious over the Easter period. \n\n“We are getting mixed messages here,' he said. \n\n“We are seeing extraordinary things unfold here in America and I am sure there are a lot of lessons for Australians to learn.” \n\nImage: Getty Rubbish, they are weeks behind us. Alarmist headlines. It was until last week that the president even admitted there was an issue. Australia will not experience the same as the usa If we’re still changing our minds about how long a haircut takes methinks we might. Too little too late.

Flattening the ‘coronavirus curve’ can be done without ‘sending Australia broke’ | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Peter Gleeson says unlike the Labor Party, the Morrison government “is cognisant of not totally destroying our economy (and) our way of life” and won’t impose Italy-style restrictions “unless they absolutely have to”. \n\nMr Gleeson said, “during this terrible virus crisis, it’s been refreshing to see the bipartisanship from both sides of politics”. \n\nHowever, on Wednesday, Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese had provided his harshest criticism, to date, of the Morrison government’s approach towards the coronavirus. \n\nMr Albanese told reporters he believed Scott Morrison was keeping “politics in mind” throughout his coronavirus plans. \n\nMr Gleeson said the Labor leader, along with his “sidekick Chris Bowen” had taken “pot shots” at the Morrison government on the issue. \n\n“Flattening the curve can be done without sending the country broke,” Mr Gleeson said. \n\nImage: Getty \n Yeah but how many dead. Coz not too many people are listening to him at the moment. Does ScottyFromMarketing at least call you in the morning after you put out? 5 days away from “absolutely” have to. Why wait. Wage guarantees 'sound good but can be very hard to enforce' | Sky News AustraliaThe Australian’s Adam Creighton says his 'gut instinct' is that Australia should not employ a model of wage guarantees as seen in the United Kingdom and New Zealand as the ongoing economic impacts of coronavirus are felt. \n\nOn Wednesday, Prime Minister Scott Morrison had ruled out adopting the UK model of wage guarantees, instead saying the government's preference is to assist Australians through existing channels. \n\nBritish Prime Minister Boris Johnson last week announced his government would subsidise 80 per cent of workers’ wages, up to $5,000 a month. \n\n'I think the government's being sensible not to go down that path,' Mr Creighton told Sky News host Peta Credlin. \n\n'My worry is it sounds good but there's going to be extraordinary waste of public money, whereby there will be billions given to businesses and they will still sack their staff anyway'. \n\nImage: Getty Easy to say when your employed still. Plenty of people have just lost their jobs and will get zero government support as they are ineligible for Centrelink, young people still living at home, partner still with a job. Wages in Aust are over inflated thanks to unions. People will work soon for a bit more than the dole. Homeless in America is an excepted part of their landscape and we will soon except it as well Sky talkingheads working overtime to stop any chance of workers getting a fair go, and they're not even being subtle about it.
