NSW debutant Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii has become just the sixth man to be sent off in State of Origin history after a shocking hit on Queensland star Reece Walsh. The Maroons led Wednesday night’s opener following an early try to Ben Hunt but the match took a sensational turn in the eighth minute.
Joseph Suaalii sent off as brutal hit leaves Reece Walsh motionless. Suaalii charged at Walsh at high speed, a shoulder to the head sending the Queensland fullback crashing to the turf and clearly showing concussion symptoms. “He’s been out cold for 30 seconds,” Andrew Johns said in commentary on Nine. Replays immediately suggested Suaalii was in danger of being sent off and referee Ashley Klein did not hesitate.
