Perth Children's Hospital has been filled with laughter and joy for Starlight Day, an annual event dedicated to raising funds for seriously ill children.
One of those families was the Ballingalls, whose lives were forever changed when their daughter Hayley was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at just seven months old. Hayley's mother, Rebekah, described the distressing symptoms that led to her daughter being diagnosed as in diabetic ketoacidosis. A blood glucose check revealed Hayley's sugar levels had reached a dangerously high 37, far exceeding the normal range of four to eight.
