Surely gaming companies must be properly penalised by losing the casino licences they have proved unsuitable to hold.

The rap sheets compiled by Australia’s two largest casino operators in what is supposed to be a highly regulated industry must rank as one of the biggest regulatory failures in the nation’s history.

The inquiry has heard that in a meeting to discuss a KPMG report detailing The Star’s non-compliance with anti-money laundering laws, Mr Bekier dismissed the report as “wrong”.Jessica Hromaswith criminal syndicate links, and then hid its illegal cash cage from the gaming regulator. The glaring question is how such misconduct occurs under the noses of supposedly vigilant state gaming regulators and governments whose job it is to keep casinos free of money laundering and organised crime.This is highly embarrassing for a country such as Australia that likes to pride itself on its superior governance in matters of both business and politics.
