Sou’West, on Victoria’s surf coast, has – like a string of other craft brewers – collapsed this month, the victim of a slowdown in spending and higher prices.

has been caught up in the woes of the craft beer sector, which is battling to control rising costs and a drop in customer spending, leading to the collapse of some of the industry’s best-known brands.

Mr Arnhold has been the chairman of Shaver Shop since it listed in 2016. Shaver Shop has a sharemarket value of $150 million and operates 120 stores across Australia and New Zealand. Deeds Brewing, based in Melbourne’s Glen Iris, announced on May 10 that it would go into liquidation after battling under administration for two months as Deloitte tried to find a buyer or someone to inject capital.Rebellion Brewing, based near Ballarat, appointed Worrells on May 22 as a “restructuring practitioner” as it looks to prune costs and trade its way through the tough economic conditions.

He said Sou’West’s large dining space had been affected by the broader downturn in hospitality as household budgets came under increasing pressure.Greg Ellery and Brodie Arnhold are listed as the company’s directors in documents lodged with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission. Mr Ellery was a former chief executive of the Australian operations of Japanese beer and soft drinks giant Asahi Premium Beverages until 2014.
