Already a subscriber?Australian venture capital firm Square Peg Capital will soon be toasting a rich profit on its investment in an Israeli start-up it first backed in 2020, when it is acquired by artificial intelligence chip titan Nvidia for $US300 million .
Square Peg led Deci’s $US9.1 million seed round in 2020 and joined its 2022 series A and B rounds, the latter of which was at a $US200 million valuation. Cash exits for venture capital funds have been scarce since the technology market peaked in late 2021, with major funds including Blackbird, AirTree Ventures and Square Peg writing down the value of some of their holdings.Public stock offerings, traditionally the biggest source of returns for venture funds that invested when the firms were smaller and private, have all but ceased for technology companies.
